To celebrate his 100th birthday, here’s Gene Kelly’s speech upon accepting the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1985.

My inspiration.

Comics for Wednesday March 7th.
Fun week. So many of my favorite creators are represented. Morrison on Action Comics. Phil Jimenez on the Fairest. Keith Giffen on OMAC. Two of the few Marvel comics I read with Defenders and X-Club. And then there are the newer creators discovered over the years of being a podcast pundit such as Jeff Lemire, Jonathan Hickman on Manhattan Projects, Emi Lennox with the second Emitown volume. Or the Action Lab crew with their release of Exo-1, Monsters are Just Like Us and Dave Dwonch’s Space-Time Condo. With this week there’s also the chance to discover the works of creators I have yet to read: Pat Grant’s Blue from Top Shelf. Faith Erin Hicks’ Friends with Boys from First Second. And while it’s not new, I’ve only ever read one issue of the sequel to this series, so I must pick up the Compleat Terminal City from Dark Horse. DC and Marv Wolfman have resurrected Night Force, an 80s property that had decent Gene Colan artwork. And who can pass up the homage cover to the super-hero comic that started it all with the crazy Honey Badger Adventures #1.
All in all, a great selection of books this week kicking off a new month, the second half of the year for the DC reboot, the start of the convention season and hopefully so much more.
