Covers of comics that are (or have been) in my collection at one point or another.
Avengers: Jocasta’s second appearance but her first appearance on a cover. I think I first ran into her during her appearances in the 80s Machine Man mini-series and because of that, I enjoy her presence in comics. I think there’s some real untapped potential in her character for an interesting story here and there. (1978)
Green Lantern: Interesting to note that Ernie Colon - a noted artist at the time - was editor of the title from issue 157 until 172. (1983)
Justice League of America (1979)
Wonder Woman: Despite the cover, this is one of my favorite Phil Jimenez WW issues ever. It’s a “Day in the Life” issue featuring Lois Lane as she follow Diana through a 24 hour period and all that that entails: charity work, interviews, political meetings, etc. It’s a fascinating look into the potential for the character outside of just super-heroics. It also features the DCU version of the View called the Scene. The hosts are Vicki Vale, Lia (Looker) Briggs, Linda Park West and Tawny Young - a reporter from the Wein/Gibbons-era Green Lantern title that was just recently covered in my posts. Jimenez pulled her out of 13-year limbo for this issue. I’m also a sucker for Vicki Vale appearances. Creators seem to have a hard time finding a place for her character, and no doubt she was initially created to be Batman’s “Lois Lane”, but she’s another supporting character that I think could have an interesting spot in the larger DCU since she’s not always tied down to Bruce Wayne/Batman/the Bat books. If you find this in back issue bins, pick it up. I believe it was also offered up digitally recently. It may not turn you into a Wonder Woman fan, but it’s worth it to read to get a well-told story and a different sometimes overlooked tour through the DC Universe. It’s that good. (2001)
