Covers of comics that are (or have been) in my collection at one point or another.

#81 part 2:

Legion of Super-Heroes (1996)

Legionnaires: The final issue of the secondary Legion title that began as a sister-title to the Five Years Later Legion run. In those earliest issues, the team was a different set of characters, believed to be the younger clones of the original. Once Zero Hour hit, and the rebooted “Archie Legion” was created doing away with the clones, this title continued as a secondary title spotlighting different members of the same team. With the finale of this series, writers DnA would continue writing their adventures in the merged title known just as Legion(2000)

Marvel Comics Presents (1991)

New Titans (1991)

Starman: James Robinson returns to help resurrect this series for the Blackest Night event. That means that with the next post, Starman joins this series! (2010)

Superman: Can’t say I hate that black and silver costume. (1993)

X-Men (1998)

Covers of comics that are (or have been) in my collection at one point or another.

#82 part 2

Green Lantern (1997)

JSA: Paul Levitz is new writer as the series begins to wrap up during the events of Infinite Crisis. George Perez on art, although Rags Morales will eventually take over. These issues didn’t quite live up to the previous Johns-era. (2006)

Legion of Super-Heroes (1996)

Marvel Comics Presents (1991)

New Titans: You know, even as well-versed as I am in Titans lore, I’m not sure I ever really absorbed the behind the scenes on this issues various reveals. Eventually I’ll need to go through it all again. (1992)

Superman: Superman is back! Foil cover! (1993)

X-Men (1998)

Covers of comics that are (or have been) in my collection at one point or another.

#83

Birds of Prey (2005)

Daredevil (2006)

DC Comics Presents: BATO! Man I loved that group/series back in the day. (1985)

Firestorm (1989)

Flash (1983)

Green Lantern: First appearance of Fatality. (1997)

JSA (2006)

Marvel Comics Presents (1991)

New Titans (1992)

Superman: The Death of Superman event comes to a close. (1993)

Image limit reached:

X-Men (1999)

.

Oops missed one file!

Catwoman: During the Blackest Night crossover, a handful of canceled titles were “brought back to life” for an issue - this being one of them. Issues from this volume of the title character will pop up in this series soon. (2010)

Covers of comics that are (or have been) in my collection at one point or another.

#95 part 2:

Man of Steel: The Superman line of books relaunch featuring Phil Jimenez covers. The brown background characters are too muddy for me and make the overall color scheme seem dull. But the line got an overhaul that for the most part worked. (1999)

New Titans (1993)

Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man: The final consecutive issue I picked up off the shelf at the time of its release. Thinking back, I’m fairly certain I enjoyed the run on this title that I read more than Amazing at the time. (1984)

Superman (1994)

Teen Titans (2011)

Wolverine (1995)

Wonder Woman (1995)

Covers of comics that are (or have been) in my collection at one point or another.

The great #100th edition!

Part 3!

Nightwing (2005)

Richie Rich: Success (1981)

Superman: The fourth familiar cover to celebrate a 100th issue! (1995)

Teen Titans: The final issue before the new 52 reboot. (2011)

Thunderbolts: Marvel restored the original numbering for this issue. The previous New Thunderbolts series lasted only 18 issues before the renumbering. I’ll never forgive Marvel for interrupting the original Thunderbolts run for that dreadful wrestling era. Bleh. (2006)

Walking Dead: Probably the most recent comic spotlighted in this series to date. (2012)

Wonder Woman: The final issue with the familiar 100th issue cover treatment. This is also the end of the Messner-Loebs/Deodato Jr. era that started with “the Contest” introducing the character of Artemis. (1995)

X-Men: The first of nine covers - this one by Art Adams - to announce the return of Chris Claremont to the X-Men! First appearance of the Neal Shaara/Thunderbird character. By the way, in my files, this cover is marked 100x. Appropriate! (2000)

Next up: The spiral down to #1 begins!

Covers of comics that are (or have been) in my collection at one point or another.

#101

Avengers West Coast: The penultimate issue of the run, although it’ll always be “West Coast Avengers” to me. (1993)

Birds of Prey (2007)

Excalibur (1996)

Green Arrow: Rather than lose an arm at the hands of Superman, shades of Dark Knight Returns, Ollie Queen goes boom! It would take another six years for his return at the hands of Kevin Smith. (1995)

Green Lantern: The X-Men have traveled from the past to a future they don’t like! Oh wait…I mean Hal Jordan! A novice, first-year Hal Jordan travels from the past to a future he doesn’t like. Sorry. I don’t know why that happened. (1998)

Marvel Comics Presents (1992)

New Titans: If ever there was a signpost along the way that dictates where a series goes wrong, this issue is it. (1993)

Nightwing: Scott McDaniel returns to the title to draw the six-part Chuck Dixon/Scott Beatty Year One storyarc! (2005)

Superman: The last consecutive issue I would pick up following all the various arcs of the Death of Superman years. From here until the Loeb run it’s all random issues, anniversaries, short arcs, etc. (1995)

Thunderbolts: Featuring artwork by Dave Ross, who, thirteen years earlier, also drew the AWC issue above. (2006)

.

Limit reached, continued here:

Wolverine (1996)

.

Wonder Woman: This issue kicks off the three year, two-star pantied, John Byrne run. I look back on these stories as a solid work with a few wonky tales here and there. The Donna Troy/WW connection that Byrne kicked up was never my favorite, but I really dug his restoration of a Golden Age Wonder Woman into the DC mythos. If you can find them cheap, it’s definitely worth a read. (1995)

.

X-Men (2000)

.

And from the never read/never owned file:

Amazing Spider-Man: First appearance of Morbius, the Living Vampire!

.

Uncanny X-Men: Thirty-six years before the events of Avengers vs X-Men, the Phoenix makes her first appearance! And although it’ll be retconned ten years later, as far as readers knew at this time, Phoenix is Jean Grey. (1976)
